Ben's Detour

We leave Revelstoke heading west.  Scenic Highway 1 is rainy and cloudy, making the small towns along the way seem damp and a little sorrowful.
I  We decide that soup at The Ploughman's Lunch in Kamloops is just what we need.  The cherry little place is filled with regulars and the lunch plate of fresh bread, soup, and homemade pickles is perfect.
On our way to Lilloet, Ben ales a sharp turn into Hostings Farm.
The organic produce and smell of the bakery get us in a jolly mood.
Ben suggests we buy a pumpkin for the RV, but it would roll sound like a bowling ball.
He is in his element.
How is it that Canadians grow such gorgeous flowers?
Adventurer 4 rolls along slowly wondering where I have gone.
We stop up the road at a historic gold rush era inn.  They have modernized and offer unusual accommodations like this covered wagon - sleeps 4.
Matthias tells us how his grandfather would hook up to cows to a wooden wagon like this one (without cover) and take him along into the fields.

It is a harrowing drive down long 10% grades to Lilloet; through rugged mountains deeply scarred by mining.  It takes a long time to reach our tired (and for sale) campground along the silty green Fraser River.  This area has been inhabited by First Nation people for 1500 years.  This morning we see a man gill net fishing and drumming and singing while he fishes.  An osprey pair with a huge nest on the wooden suspension bridge nearby are fascinating to watch and have their own webcam.

In the morning we leave modest Lilloet behind and travel the slow scenic route to Whistler.
